Bros, Have booked hotel and flight for my virgin HCM trip. But just aware that Singtel won't provide the data roaming plan for vietnam, which is available for most of other countries. Is possible to find a way to get data access while still using singtel number in vietnam? or I have to buy a vietnam SIM card with data? Airport has the card right? thanks.

Overpass fails to overcome gridlock alert near Saigon airport

Millions of dollars have been spent on an overpass billed as a traffic angel. But it has not helped to clear clogged streets.


Truong Son Street usually receives high traffic volumes from Pham Van Dong and Bach Dang streets, so gridlock has been the story of its life for years. "Traffic will paralyze every single time there are more trucks or cars than usual on the streets near Tan Son Nhat. Today it takes me more than 40 minutes to go from Thu Duc District to Tan Binh District, twice the normal time,” said a xe om (motorbike taxi) driver named Nam.

A depression forming in the East Vietnam Sea is expected to evolve into a storm as it picks up strength en route toward Taiwan and mainland China.

The low-pressure system was located some 470 kilometers northeast of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago on Thursday night, packing winds at 40 to 50km per hour and squalls at 60 to 70km an hour, the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported.

The tropical depression is forecast to move 570 kilometers southeast of Hoang Sa on Friday night as it creeps northeast at five km per hour with projected winds at between 40 and 60km an hour and squalls at up to 88km per hour.

According to Tran Quang Nang, an official from the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the tropical depression has, so far, mainly affected weather patterns at sea.

Rain and strong winds are expected in the areas in the northern part of the East Vietnam Sea and the maritime region stretching from the south-central province of Binh Thuan to the Mekong Delta province of Ca Mau.

Over the next couple of days, a heatwave will smother provinces in northern Vietnam with temperatures from 33 to 36 degrees Celsius, Nang said.

Meanwhile, rain will continue to fall in the Central Highlands and southern regions, mostly during evenings and nights, the weather pundit added.

Police fire warning shots to quell late night gang fight in downtown Saigon

Aerials shots were fired by police in downtown Ho Chi Minh City late Wednesday night in an effort to end an armed gang fight between business rivals.

Ten gang members representing both sides of the conflict were arrested while others were sent for treatment at a local hospital, District 1 police said on Thursday.

Around 10:00 pm on the day, dozens of young men from two rival gangs gathered in front of a restaurant on Calmette Street in District 1, a CBD, armed with knives, machetes, and metal tubes.

“They were covered in tattoos, with weapons in their hands and a murderous look on their faces, as if they had been ready to fight to their death,” an eye-witness recalled. “It was terrifying. Some passers-by turned around and fled the scene, while others parked their vehicles safely away from the site to notify police and reporters.”

Police arrived at the scene just as the fight was breaking out.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement, many of the gang members fled over the Calmette Bridge into District 4, while others sought shelter inside the restaurant at number 92 Calmette.

Despite the building being surrounded by the police, the remaining men from both gangs began fighting inside the diner.

By 10:15 pm, a gang member had broken free from the fight and escaped the building, calling for help to treat the multiple wounds on his body.

The man, later identified as 27-year-old Hanoi resident Nguyen Tien Thanh, was immediately taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

As the night wore on, screams and shouts from the violent fight poured from the restaurant and a police line was set up to keep locals and reporters a safe distance from the building.

Police entered the building multiple times throughout the course of the fight, at one point carrying out two seriously injured men, one of whom was unconscious.
According to a senior officer of Nguyen Thai Binh Ward Police in District 1, five gang members aged 19 to 20 were apprehended inside the restaurant while resisting arrest.

Others tried to flee by climbing to the restaurant’s roof, forcing police officers to fire aerial shots as a deterrent.

Five men aged 22 to 33 were arrested on the roof despite their efforts to resist with knives and machetes.

Two 1.5-meter metal tubes with bayonet-like blades fixed to one end were confiscated, among other weapons.

Pills suspected to be ecstasy were also found inside the restaurant.

According to initial police investigations, the fight erupted after a dispute over the ownership and management of the restaurant.

No leh I always get data roaming services in Wetnam from Singtel leh just that I will make it a point to disable it as very ex :confused:

Yes you can get their local data sim from the airport counters:cool:

Well as seen from the pics the road to the flyover to airport departure is damn clear so lucky for us it is the adjoining streets that is clogged up :D

I dun even have overseas data roaming service as I din pay for it...pay asyou roam also dun want...like u also disable data when overseas...:)

Just use the vietnam sim with data plan...:)
