The raid was on the news..... as far as we know it only made local news..... not gone international yet..... there was also a statement issued from the Mayor's office in conjunction with the news report....... does not sound good for the bars and mongers. Anyway I will get it translated and post here.

I was in Dumaguate when I saw this news broadcast on TV..... it was only a brief report about 1 min and some footage of the raid in progress. However the reporting was in Tagalog and I could not understand what the reporter was saying.

Bros take care and cheong safely when in PI...... the situation has changed.

You are not the only one..... many have changed their cheonging destinations away from AC. Even old dying playgrounds like Hatyai and Balai are seeing an influx of cheongsters.

Just my 2 cents worth of input. I spoken to my Filipino colleague who was from AC about what I read here. He made a call to his friend whose father is a policeman. He told me that the current raids and stuffs are just for "show". He will let me know how long it will last. So maybe our playground might not vanish. Not sure if it is true but this is what I can find out.

Sounds good. If so, then it might just be a scheme coexiding with that recent news story on CNN with Paquiao and that woman "fighting trafficing".

And that may have forced some politicians in PI to just set up a show implying that they care and agree.

But as allways with these news stories, they die off.

If it had been due to the law, then why weren't there anything like this back in january when it was first introduced?

This is just a guess though, and one of the options for the outcome. However, these things may return from time to time. One week per year perhaps? And in the rainy season. And when it does return, the police may feel entitled to abuse their power to make some extra money. So it may be possible to bribe them for a smaller sum (maybe 100k instead of 200k).

I don't know. But we will see.

I am more inclined to tanarthur's viewpoint and AC will still be around and be back to "normal". The "show" will take its toll and there will be changes.

How long the "show" last will be anyone's guess.
