Indonesian woman says she’s thankful for the gift of a new microphone...

.... netizens let her know it’s a vibrator.

Can you tell the difference between a microphone and a vibrator? One Indonesian woman seemingly couldn’t, making her the subject of much mockery online.

Tribun News today reported that a viral Facebook post went up on December 26 which includes a photo of two objects and a caption that says “Thank God, I got a power bank and a microphone as a gift.” The post has already been shared over 1,500 times.

We can assure you that the photo above, which was censored by Tribun News, does not in fact show a power bank and a microphone. The larger item is almost certainly Fairy Wand Massager Multi-Speed Personal Massage Vibrator.

Thousands of comments inevitably poured in, with many netizens teasing what they believe to be the woman’s naivety with comments like, “the mic is so cute and pink,” and “Why don’t you use the powerbank?”

Tribun News kept the woman’s identity a secret to protect her online privacy. That said, we were easily able to find Facebook profile, which appears to be legitimate, and the controversial post is indeed still there on her personal wall.

The question is, is OP hopelessly naïve or did she in fact know exactly what it was she was posting and this was also just a clever ploy to achieve internet fame?

Well, considering that so many netizens have pointed out to her what the “mic” and “power bank” really are, and yet she still hasn’t removed the post, we’re leaning towards the latter.

At either rate, let’s just assume it’s all in good fun and hope no overzealous conservative reports her to the authorities for spreading pornography and violating the Information and Electronic Transactions Act.

Little girl cries inconsolably after not getting to see the president...

...so Jokowi gives her a call on NYE

For most of us, missing out on an opportunity to see the president would be a big disappointment, but for one little girl it seemed like the end of the world.

The girl, whose name is Neisha, had wanted to see President Joko Widodo while he was on a work trip to Tomohon, North Sulawesi, last Tuesday. The president’s convoy was scheduled to pass by her family’s house that day on the way to another event and Neisha had been waiting to see him that morning.

But an unfortunately timed trip to the bathroom caused Neisha to miss Jokowi as he passed by. Upon learning this, she immediately started crying tears of inconsolable sadness and bitter anger, blaming her father for not alerting her to the president’s presence.

Her mother, Nova Rampengan, took a video of Neisha’s adorable sadness over not seeing the president and put it on Facebook, where it quickly went viral and was written about by several media outlets.

The video also caught the attention of Kahiyang Ayu, Jokowi’s daughter. She posted on Instagram, asking if anybody knew how they could get in contact with Neisha’s family. Kahiyang’s message reached Nova, who then got in contact with the president’s daughter to help set up a very special surprise for Neisha.

The result of that heartwarming surprise was published on New Year’s Eve as the latest video blog post from Jokowi’s youngest son Kaesang. In the video, Kaesang and Kahiyang explain the story of Neisha’s missed meeting with their father and also replay the video one more time.

Kahiyang first calls Nova to ask for Neisha. Once Neisha is on the line, she hands the phone over to the president. Their conversation went something like this:

Jokowi: Hello Neisha, good evening. You were the one crying the other day, yeah?

Neisha: Yeah…

Jokowi: Why were you crying?

Neisha: I wanted to meet…

Jokowi: Who did you want to meet?

Neisha: Bapak President.

Jokowi: Oh you wanted to meet the president. And you couldn’t meet him?

Neisha: Yeah...

Jokowi: Yeah, I saw you were crying the other day. Well, I’m recording this, later you can watch it on Youtube, ok? But don’t cry anymore, ok?

Neisha: Ok.

Jokowi: Study hard, ok?

Neisha: Ok.

The next day, on January 1, Nova posted this impossibly cute video of Neisha praying for the president and his family to be healthy and blessed by God in the New Year.

Govt arrests 32 alleged sex workers in Jakarta, mostly from Vietnam

The Law and Human Rights Ministry announced Friday it had arrested 32 foreigners, allegedly sex workers, violating immigration procedures in numerous entertainment centers in Jakarta proper.

Carried out on Thursday by investigators of the ministry's Immigration Office, the arrests were the second operation in the past three weeks, 137 alleged foreign sex workers have been arrested in total.

Immigration Office's foreign nationals monitoring and law enforcement director Yurod Saleh said 32 suspected female sex workers, mostly from Vietnam, were arrested during a string of raids on Thursday in three entertainment centers in West Jakarta, North Jakarta and Bogor in West Java.

During the raids, investigators confiscated 27 passports of Vietnamese, Kazakh, Chinese, Uzbek, Moroccan and Russian nationals, Rp 5 million in cash, cellphones, contraceptives and karaoke hostess uniforms from the arrested women.

The arrested women have allegedly violated a number of provisions in the 2011 Immigration Law, such as being unable to show a passport when asked by investigators and overstaying a visa, which are stipulated in Article 116 and Article 122, respectively.

"They entered Indonesia using tourist visas and visas on arrival," Yurod told a press conference.

When asked whether investigators had also uncovered the human trafficking networks that sent the arrested alleged sex workers to Indonesia, Yurod said, "investigators are delving into that matter."

Previously, Immigration Office's investigators apprehended 125 suspected foreign female sex workers, mostly Chinese nationals, during a string of raids carried out in numerous cities across the archipelago on New Year's Eve.

Indonesia TV station censors popstar Agnez Mo’s entire body during musical performanc

The latest target in a long line of controversial censorship choices by Indonesian television stations is Indonesia’s own homegrown international popstar Agnez Mo.

The “Coke Bottle” singer’s figure was completely blurred out during a recent showing of TransTV’s 15th anniversary celebration program in which Agnez performed wearing a kind of corset and shorts underneath a long flowing yellow jacket.

Agnez apparently went unblurred during the program’s original airing, but that it was blurred during a replay which took place over the weekend.

There was an uproar on social media in February when Puteri Indonesia contestants wearing traditional kebayas had parts of their bodies blurred during a replay of the beauty pageant.

Other targets of TV censorship that have been ridiculed by Indonesian netizens in recent times include Shizuka from the cartoon “Doraemon” and Sandy the squirrel from “Spongebob Squarepants”, a humanoid robot, and a female swimmer competing in the Indonesia’s National Games.

The National Broadcasting Commission (KPI) is often blamed for TV station’s overzealous censorship, but KPI always replies that it is the TV stations themselves that decide what to censor on a show-by-show basis. However, KPI sets out strict guidelines for TV stations regarding what they can show in regards to the human body.

“In broadcast standards and regulations article 18, it’s mentioned that TV stations are forbidden from ‘exploiting and/or showing specific body parts, such as thighs, behind, breasts, in a close-up or medium shot,” said KPI head Yuliandre Darwis, as quoted by Liputan 6.

Whether Agnez’s outfit required censorship under those guidelines, or whether such guidelines perpetuate patriarchal ideas about women’s bodies and female modesty, we’ll let you decide for yourselves.

Police arrest Singaporean for spreading counterfeit US dollars in Taman Sari,West Jkt

While some members of the police are investigating FPI leader Habib Rizieq’s claims that the anti-counterfeiting system on the new rupiah bills are secretly communist logos (they aren’t), other police officers were busting a very real counterfeit money scheme in Taman Sari, West Jakarta, involving the circulation of fake US dollars.

"ZN, a citizen of Singapore, has been secured for exchanging counterfeit money at a money changer in the area of Taman Sari. ZN was arrested on December 14, 2016," said Taman Sari Police Chief Nasriadi during a press conference today as quoted by Detik.

After interrogating ZN, Taman Sari Metro Police arrested five others, all Indonesian, for their involvement in the counterfeit money scheme.

"From the suspects, we seized counterfeit dollars with a value of about $100,000 in 100 USD bill increments. We also seized printing equipment including computers, printers, cutting tools and printing tools," Nasriadi said.

Police say ZN was charged with distributing the fake $100 bills to money changers in Jakarta while the counterfeits were printed in Yogyakarta.
A money changer on Jalan Gajah Mada noticed one of their fake notes, which led police to begin their investigation.

Nasriadi said that the suspects are believed to have been creating counterfeit currency for quite some time, not just US dollars but other foreign currencies as well. Among the evidence they found was a flash disk containing high-quality data on Singaporean dollars, Brazilian real and others.

Police say they are still developing the case and hunting for other suspects. According to Nasriadi, they could all face up to 15 years in jail for their counterfeiting crimes.

7 prisoners escape from Narcotic Directorate in Jakarta by punching hole through wall

Well, it wasn’t exactly the meticulous years-in-the-making prison escape plan from “The Shawshank Redemption” (or even that TV show “Prison Break”, for that matter), but it seems to have been just as effective. Seven prisoners managed to escape from detention at the Police Investigation Narcotics Directorate in East Jakarta early this morning by punching a hole through a bathroom wall.

"The seven inmates escaped by punching holes in the bathroom wall with iron bars and climbing the walls of the [next door] National Brain Center Hospital as tall as 2.5 meters," said Brigadier Eko Daniyanto of the Police Drug Investigations Division in a written statement as picked up by Kompas.

According to police, the escape apparently occurred around 4:15 am. The seven prisoners who are currently on the run include Azizul (30), Ridwan (22), Cai Chang (49), Anthony (33), Amiruddin (27), Ricky Gelani (30), and Sukma Jaya (34). Police have not released many details about their crimes, besides that three had been detained for methamphetamines and four for marijuana.

Eko said they also studying CCTV footage from behind the prison and from the neighboring National Brain Center Hospital. Police said they were forming seven teams, one to pursue each of the seven suspects, as well as keeping tabs on each of the prisoners’ families and their mobile phone accounts.

The officers that were assigned to guard the prisoners when they escaped also being investigated and police say they are analyzing how the prison’s security could have been breached in such a way.
