Another suggestion i can think of, is to put the SG (or whereever you are from) embassy on speed dial. If you are ever detained call them immediately and leave a voice message, as this should put some fear into the crooked cops if the embassy is involved and they wanna continue with the scam. Killing Pinoy Drug dealers is one thing, but a foreigner with prescription drugs is totally another thing that would surely cause an international uproar which these crooked cops won't want to deal with.

7 other cops accused of preying on South Koreans in Angeles City

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating yet another case involving alleged rogue cops and South Korean victims in Angeles City.

According to Police Regional Office 3 Director Chief Supt. Aaron Aquino, 7 cops from the Angeles City Police Station 5 have been placed under restrictive custody and are now facing administrative charges after 3 Koreans claimed that they were “arrested” and “illegally detained” inside the police station for 7 hours.

The cops released the South Koreans after they allegedly paid P300,000.
The cops also allegedly took P10,000 from the wallets of the South Koreans before they were released.

The incident happened last December 30, 2016. The victims filed a complaint at the South Korean Embassy last January 5.

“This is the first time they visited the Philippines. They just went here to play golf. It was a traumatic experience,” Aquino said.

According to Aquino, the cops allegedly entered a residence in Friendship Plaza where the 3 South Koreans were staying while on vacation in the Philippines.

The cops claimed that the South Koreans were involved in illegal gambling but had no arrest order or a search warrant.

The cops allegedly took golf equipment, shoes, jewelry, and laptops from the house then took the 3 to the police station where they were held for 7 hours.
According to Aquino, there were no complaints against the Koreans or even a blotter documenting the “arrest.”

Wah..im really now seriously considering whether i sld go next week. Im travelling alone and no bros wif me. I wld rather forfeit my air tickets and hotel stay than to compromise safety.

If you already book air tickets and hotel, i would probably still go. The recent arrests of their own officers may be enough to scare the crooked ones from continuing for now. Also Probably only a very small percentage get targeted for this kind of scam (or else there would not be so many visitors there). Keep in mind Ninja Assasin's friend picked up a freelancer from High Society (freelancer club) and these type of scams don't appear to happen from normal gogo bars (to my knowledge).

Just be cautious and do what you can to avoid being targeted- lots of stories on the internet of these crooked cop scams. Only pull girls from trusted bars (not street or club freelancer), check their ID for age, don't let them invite unknown friends to your hotel, don't disclose your hotel name and room (maybe enter from back entrance if possible), and don't let her use her phone in the room (in case she is communicating with crooked cops), and keep Embassy # on speed dial if you are detained.

Finally, if you are still too worried, you can detour to Manila, Cebu, or Boracay instead. Crooked cops do not seem as much of an issue there.

These incidents happen all the time but I have been going for 15 years and never had any issues. As previous posters have stated, get a girl from the bar and avoid freelancers and you will be fine. If you want to be extra cautious then splash out and stay at the ABC hotel. They will look after you and I have never heard of police busting into rooms at that hotel.
