Also renting a bike for flexibility sounds like a good idea, but how do you know their parking rules, where to park, how much parking coupon to put etc and what if you come back after your bia om session only to find your bike missing ? Why take these risks & end up paying more?

The parking rules are not difficult to work out. Wherever you go, you can simply park at their doors. Bigger businesses like hotels, restaurants and cafes have their own parking security. For big buildings or McDonald in D1, where you ride into the car Park, they will collect 5k dongs from you. When you have uncle ho, anything is easy.
Of course, no men's land like parks and gardens have no security. That's where you need to be careful.
Oh ya, riding against the traffic is common there. I do it all the time.
