Probably ethnic minority, ethnic Tay (similar DNA and language as the Thais, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%A0y_people , ethnologist suspect maybe the Thai's ancestors and an offshoot of China's Zhuang minority) as oppose to the majority Kinh (True Viet), usually from northern Vietnam. Do ask her which province she is from next time, able to assume then.
